The Cape Chamber of Commerce has warned that the industrial action could be the last straw for smaller companies struggling to get back on their feet following the global economic crisis.
Chamber president Michael Bagraim says demands for an increase of more than double the inflation rate come on top of massive electricity price increases.
This could be too much for some companies, meaning that the strike could lead to job losses.
The strike will be continuing today.
