The Public Protector has found the mayor of the Hessequa Local Municipality in the Southern Cape guilty of improper conduct and abuse of power.

Christopher Taute sent letters to 15 businesses earlier this year, requesting donations for the ANC.

Thuli Madonsela says the municipality must take action against Taute in terms of its code of conduct.

The DA’s Wilmot James says he hopes the ANC-led council uses this opportunity to make an example of Taute.
