Fears are growing that fuel pumps could run dry next week, with workers in the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries preparing to go on strike tomorrow.

This happens while not announcement has yet been made on progress in weekend negotiations in the steel and engineering sector.

The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union and the General Industries Workers Union says up to 70-thousand people are expected to down tools over a wage dispute tomorrow.

Oil refineries, including the fuel pipeline from Durban to Gauteng, will be affected. Unions want a wage increase of between 11- and 13-percent, while employers are offering between four- and seven-percent.
