The National Union of Metalworkers insists that the strike action by its members has been peaceful.
There have been numerous reports of strikers turning violent.
It is alleged that in the most recent incident, workers said to be Numsa members pulled a businessman out of his bakkie in Germiston and beat him to death.
But Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim says union members are being provoked.
