South African Airways has unveiled the first of its new international airliners emblazoned with the Nelson Mandela Day logo.
Preparations for the celebrated statesman’s 93rd birthday on the 18th of this month are gathering momentum.
Addressing a news conference at the OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, SAA chairperson Cheryl Carolus announced that the national carrier would also fly 93 children from all provinces to Johannesburg to celebrate Madiba’s birthday.
Meanwhile, young people have been urged to make meaningful contributions to South Africa and follow in the footsteps of the former president.
Representing parliament at the news conference, Bhuti Manamela said several events will be held across the country in honour of Madiba, who turns 93 on the 18th.
