Cosatu has come out against President Jacob Zuma’s preferred candidate as chief justice.

At a special sitting of the Judicial Service Commission in Cape Town, where Judge Mogoeng Mogoeng is being interviewed today, Cosatu submitted a call for the JSC to recommend that his candidacy be rejected.

The union federation says although Mogoeng has met the minimum criteria, his judgments show a mind-set and values that are inconsistent with the Constitution.

Mogoeng today rejected accusations that he was homophobic and gender insensitive, saying his critics were only concentrating on a few of his judgements.
