President Jacob Zuma has paid his respects to the 60 police members who have been killed in the line of duty this year.
Speaking at a National Commemoration Day event in Pretoria yesterday, Zuma said the number is unacceptably high and that the loss to the families, and to South Africa, is immeasurable.
Zuma says criminals who attack police members are directly challenging the might of the state.
President Zuma, together with Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Deputy Police Minister, Maggie Sotyu, and national police commissioner Bheki Cele were the first people to lay wreaths.
