SA Communist Party leader Blade Nzimande says the Dalai Lama is a divisive figure and has come out in defence of the way in which the government handled the visa incident.
Nzimande is reported as saying that the Dalai Lama is using his position to make Tibet break away from China.
He added that he did not think South Africa should be used as a platform for secession. Nzimande made it clear that he was not speaking as a government spokesperson, but rather as a communist.
