Despite the friction between Desmond Tutu and the ANC about the Dalai Lama’s visa application, President Jacob Zuma has officially wished the archbishop emeritus a happy 80th birthday.
Zuma says Tutu has a special place in the hearts of people for the manner in which he stood up against the apartheid state, speaking out against injustice and oppression.
As one of South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, Zuma says the government respects him, loves him and will always welcome his guidance on issues.
