Metrotail carriage set alight

Metrorail reported that three of their train carriages were set alight near a Cape Town station this morning.

Regional manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz said the fire, damaged a carriage and destroying two bordering trains, and had started near the Woltemade station.

There were no passengers on the train, and no injuries were reported. 

A reward of R25 000 has been offered for information that will lead to conviction.

Swartz said that the quick actions by fire services and their security department made sure that the fire was contained within one coach.

“We want to commend both units for the splendid work they did, we have taken stringent measures to ensure that incidents like these do not reoccur” Swarts added.
