The South African Communist Party said that as some people enjoyed the Easter break with families, over 200 families in the Western Cape townships battled fires which left immeasurable damage.

In places like Guglethu, Langa and Phillipi, people living in backyard dwellings and shack settlements spent sleepless nights fighting fires fanned by excessive winds and now do not have shelter.

SACP Spokesperson Sonwabile Ngxiza said the department of huma settlements has failed to deliver houses to the citizens.

Ngxiza added that every year people experience fires and loose all their possessions and something needs to be done.
