The Western Cape Education Department said it has made available about R35 million to help schools in the province that are battling financially.

These schools have been identified by the department and the money will assist fee charging schools.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said this comes after MEC Donald Grant approved proposals by the WCED that would result in additional funding for public schools serving poorer communities.

Casey said the WCED would make funding available as the budget allows to over 300 schools.  In 2014 the budget will be R35 million from R18 million.
