Residents of Marikana today picketed outside Parliament to show government that the shacks they destroyed were not unfinished or empty structures.  The residents say government destroyed homes and not only structures.

The Marikana group is demanding full compensation for all the material, furniture, documents and clothes which were destroyed by the Anti Land Invasion Unit and the Law Enforcement.

One of residents Sibulelo Mthethwa said the situation is bad as far as the pople are concerned.

“The people that lead this country do not think about us, they only think about themselves; they demolished our shacks, they shoot us, they told us that if we continue to live in that forest there will be trouble” Mthethwa added.

Mthethwa also said that they stay in Marikana because they do not have money to support themselves as most of them do not work.
