The city's disaster management on Sunday said a pregnant woman and her two-year-old daughter died in a fire in Vrygrond, Cape Town.

Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said fire services arrived on the scene found three shacks on fire.

Solomons-Johannes said during the fire fighting efforts the emergency crew found the remains of Magdalena Cloete and of her daughter under the rubble.

Solomons Johannes added that the cause of the blaze was believed to be a candle which lit bedding after falling over.

“Cloete's other child was away for the weekend with his grandmother,” said Solomons Johannes.

Solomons Johannes said the cause of the blaze was believed to be a candle which lit bedding after falling over.

He added that ten people were left homeless.
