Mother and son die in head on collision with a bus near Henley Dam

Two people have died, after a bus and a car collided head on near the Henley Dam in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday night.

Netcare 911spokesman Chris Botha said the exact cause of the accident will remain a subject of police investigation.

Botha added that when Netcare 911 paramedics and the emergency services arrived at the scene and found the wreckage of the bus on its side.

Furthermore he said the crumpled remains of the car was found on the roadway with the occupants still trapped in the vehicle.

“After triaging the injured it was found that the child had tragically died before our arrival, the mother and father was in a critical condition while a bus passenger escaped with minor injuries,” said Botha.

Botha said paramedics started resuscitating the female after she went into cardiac arrest, tragically though she died on scene due to the extensive injuries that she sustained.

He explained that the critically injured male and the bus passenger were stabilised on scene before medics transported them to the Edendale hospital for the care that they required.
