South African Municipal workers union today said the Waste management workers from the pikitup entity in Johannesburg are not on strike, most of them will be returning to their workplaces.

Spokesman Tahir Sema said that pikitup management is refusing to allow some workers back to their respective workplaces.

Sema said waste removal services are to be fully restored immediately.

Sema said workers from SAMWU are not happy with the pikitup’s biometric clocking system, lack of consultation in its implementation; workers want employer to make travel arrangements.

“We will attempt to resolve these issues with the management as soon as it is reasonably possible; if management agrees, we will be meeting them in the coming weeks to finalise workers demands” Sema added.

The workers half day off’s they received were also taken away, which they were given as a result of having worked overtime.
