Khayelitsha residents in Site B this morning took to the streets and protested over job opportunities from the City of Cape Town’s Expanded Public Works Programme.

The residents blocked the road and burnt tyres resulting in traffic being diverted on to Govern Mbeki and Walter Sisulu roads.

Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson Wilfred Solomon Johannes said the City’s Law Enforcement agencies affected road closures in the interest of the public safety and later dispersed the crowd.

Johannes said the City of Cape Town is investigating the allegations made by the protestors.
