The Democratic Alliance say it is concerned by the public funds, being mismanaged by the Department of Human Settlements.

This after special audit found over R700 million unspent on building toilets for the poor.

DA’s David Ross said the department of human settlements failed to spend over R700 million allocated funds, showing complete disregard for the 2.6 million households that still do not have access to basic sanitation services.

David Ross said this is all about the non-compliance with the laws and regulations and also with regards to the implications with regards of irregular expenditure.

“It’s very unfortunate that this is the situation where people area left in the lurch that really needs sanitation. We will call the officials in the departments and the people involved in the mismanagement of this fund to explain and see that there’s consequences for the misuse of public funds.” said Ross
