12 people were injured this morning after a taxi collided with a barrier and rolled on the N3 Highway near the Gilloolys intersection in Johannesburg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find the wrecked vehicle lying on its side near the barrier.

Occupants from the vehicle were found lying in two lanes of the road. On assessment, paramedics discovered that 12 people were injured in the collision, one of them critically.

Paramedics immediately began their treatment of the patients while metro services began closing off some of the lanes of the highway.

Meiring said treatment and advance life support interventions were performed on the critically injured taxi driver to stabilise his vital signs.

He said once treated, the patient was airlifted by the ER24 Helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
He added that the remaining patients on scene were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to nearby facilities for further care.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations, Meiring concluded.
