Delft Temporary Relocation Area (TRA) is a temporary, emergency arrangement which is designed to provide basic shelter for people with nowhere else to go.
This was a statement by the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee member for housing, Shehaam Sims, who provided and update on what the City of Cape Town has done so far in the settlement, and report on the current situation.
Sims set the record straight after media reports raised concerns about conditions in the Relocation Area.
State owned company Thubelisha drove the eviction order but did not provide alternative accommodation.
She said people were left on the street. The City therefore built the TRA to prevent a humanitarian crisis.
Since then, a number of other people with no accommodation have been given shelter in the TRA, including people who could not afford back yard accommodation.
