91 Metro Police officers have been fired after the officers staged an illegal protest on the N2 in 2007.
On the 16th of August 2007 the officers with blue lights flashing and sirens blaring, began the protest action on the highway to raise awareness of their grievances.
“The dismissed officers appealed to the South African Bargaining Council to review their dismal and the commissioner found that their dismal was justified and the city followed a fair procedure”
“Two of the officers were reinstated on Monday because the commissioner found that they did not take part in the protest” said police spokes person Petier Cronje
The commission also said that the officers brought the city into disrepute; they planned the disruption and showed no remorse for blocking morning peak hour traffic.
The officers blocked the N2 between the Bhunga Avenue turn-off into Langa and the Raapenberg off-ramp into Pinelands.
The protest was sparked by the city''s restructuring and realignment process, in terms of which officers were to be transferred to depots and units that were in some cases far from their homes.
