The City of Cape Town’s plans to revamp the public transport systems have been put on hold.
This follows after the estimated cost of the projects escalated from R1.45 billion to a staggering R3.5 billion.
It is reported that the total cost of the buses of the Intergrated Rapid Transit system (IRT) was not included in the original estimated cost.
The concrete which is needed for the bus ways was also not included.
According to reports the city will have to scale down the first phase of the IRT system.
Some projects were expected to be completed by 2010, but there is only enough money to complete the link from the inner city services and a link to the airport.
