Last night an on duty police sergeant from the Delft police station was gunned on the corners of Symphony and Lansdowne Road in Phillipi East.
He was accompanied by a volunteer from the Delft neighbourhood watch, who was also shot dead.
“It is alleged that a mini bus taxi pulled up next to the police vehicle, when three suspects emerged and fired several shots at the policeman and his colleague. The suspects fled on foot.
“ But before they left they robbed the policeman of his 9mm official firearm,” said SAPS spokesperson Andre Traut.
The suspects have yet to be arrested.
