The African National Congress Women's League has kicked off Women’s Month celebrations in Durban.

League’s president Angie Motshekga and members of the national executive council visited the informal settlement of Uganda outside Umlazi, where they handed out toys, blankets, food parcels and a cheque worth 30-thousand-rands.

Motshekga says the league will engage in activities towards empowering women throughout the month.

They will also fast-track the One Garden One Family campaign, with the main event being held in Vryheid next weekend.

In an exclusive telephone interview, the deputy president of the league Nosipho Ntwanambi said the league will join hands with government in celebrating women’s month.

“We will join hands with government in celebrating women’s month. On the nineth of this month we will celebrate the day together the government in the province,” she said.

She further said in the Northern Cape their league and the Francis Baard District municipality will join hands in celebrating the day by unveiling a stature of Francis Baard, a freedom fighter and apartheid activist.
