A revised wage officer has been signed by The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa and South African Transport and Allied Workers Union.
The revised offer was signed after SATAWU had consultations with its members.
“The wage offer is an increase of 8 percent across the board for PRASA Corporate Office, Metrorail and Shosholoza Meyl.
“A commitment was also made to employ Fixed Term Contract Workers into permanent positions by 1st of April 2010,” said PRASA spokesperson Tiro Holele.
Holele added that PRASA is delighted with the “significant milestone reached in the wage negotiations”, and wish to convey their gratitude to SATAWU, for protecting the interests of its members, whilst safeguarding the sustainability of the business.
