A huge veld fire that has been burning out of control between Botriver and Grabouw in the Overberg for the past four days may have been started by arsonists.
Fire fighters were desperately trying to bring the fire under control in the Groenlandberg Mountains where extremely hot conditions prevailed.
The temperature peaked at more than 32 degrees yesterday.
Spokesperson for Cape Nature Conservation Patrick Shone says the blaze has now reached farms at the foothills of the mountain, but he adds no one is being evacuated.
