Death toll on the country’s roads down on previous year’s

The Transport Department says the number of people killed on South African roads during December is down.

This is in comparison on the previous year’s figure.

A total of one-thousand-and-50 people died on the roads last year, compared to one-thousand-348 the previous year (last year).

Spokesperson Logan Maistry says 276 drivers, 419 passengers and 355 pedestrians lost their lives last month.

He says speed has been a major contributory factor to the accidents.

More than 285-thousand received] speed fines last month.


More than three thousand drunk and 244 reckless or negligent drivers were arrested.
