As the Mother City peaks at a sweltering 34 degrees Celsius today, the City’s Disaster Risk Management has urged Capetonians and visitors to be cautious and sensible.
They have advised the public to drink enough water; stay in cool places and to keep one's head covered.
To prevent run-away fires, the city asks that residents refrain from throwing cigarette butts out of motor vehicle windows and making uncontrollable fires.
Beachgoers are urged to exercise extreme caution and to swim in designated areas only.
Any emergency calls can be reported to the 107 emergency number from a Telkom line.
Cellphone users need to dial 021 480 7700.
