Rental units across the city will be upgraded and refurbished when a new housing project is launched later this month.
The City of Cape Town’s unique project will incorporate more than seven thousand Community Residential Unit (CRU) rental properties in eleven project areas across the city.
These project areas include rental units in Kewtown, Scottsville, Scottsdene, Manenberg, Heideveld, Hanover Park, Uitsig, Woodlands.
The project will start with upgrades to the City’s rental units in Kewtown.
According to a media statement by the city, during Phase 1 of the project these properties will receive both basic refurbishments and upgrades in terms of the national CRU Policy.
Project funding has been approved by the provincial government for most of the developments.
“Funding will be provided by National Government, according to the CRU Policy, and is estimated at over a billion rand for the first phase alone. The project will be rolled out to the various project areas as funds are received by the city,” the statement said.
The launch scheduled for the 18th of this month in Kewtown, will be attended by Premier Helen Zille and Housing MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela as well as City Mayor Dan Plato.
