Call for Young Communist League to support Defence Force

Defence and Military Veterans Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has called on the Young Communist League to rally its unemployed members behind national service.

Sisulu has facilitated military service for the African National Congress Youth League executive, including president Julius Malema.

She told the Young Communist League during a meeting in Johannesburg that national service would provide its members with opportunities to learn new skills and undergo personal development.

Meanwhile, the Freedom Front Plus says Sisulu’s decision to give the ANC Youth League executive military training sets danger lights flickering.

The FF Plus’ Pieter Groenewald says Julius Malema likes to sing Kill the Boer and the question now is whether Malema will receive training to be able to do that.

He also wants to know whether the FF Plus Youth Committee’s executive management will be given the same training.

The Democratic Alliance has also slammed the decision, saying it is imperative that the Defence Force does not get drawn into party politics.

The DA’s David Maynier says military training for Julius Malema and senior members of the ANC Youth League risks politicising the Defence Force and undermining the principle of non-partisanship of the SANDF.
