Five people have been arrested on charges of fraud relating to municipal tender processes by the Hawks in Stellenbosch.
The five men, who are former officials of the Stellenbosch Municipality, were arrested on charges of fraud.
Police spokesperson Colonel Billy Jones says the allegations relate to irregularities and unlawful conduct in the tendering processes of the municipality.
“The arrest follows after the Hawks launched their investigation during October last year when the allegations were reported to the police.
“Details of the alleged modus operandi and the investigation will only be revealed when presented as evidence in a court of law,” said Jones.
The men aged between aged between 36 and 58 years old will remain in police custody until they appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Jones added that the particulars of the suspects will not be divulged before their court appearance.
