A 27 year old suspect has been arrested for theft and house breaking at the Nico Malan hall, situated on the Grootte Schuur hospital premises.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Hilton Malila says the arrest follows after police members, during schedule crime prevention patrols, responded swiftly to a burglar alarm that was activated at the Nico Malan hall.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that one of the windows was broken, to gain entry to the hall.
“During a searching on the premises we noticed that the suspect was still on the premises busy to remove some of the copper brass door handles that was fitted to the doors,” said Malila.
He added that the suspect noticed the police, he wanted to flea. A pursued ensued and the suspect was arrested on the premises.
“We confiscated the equipment that was removed, in the possession of the suspect and he is currently in custody.
The suspect is due to appear in the Cape Town magistrates' court on Friday on charges of housebreaking and theft.
