Strike by Metrorail workers is set to continue meaning that people who use the trains will need to make alternative travelling arrangements.
United Transport and Allied Union general secretary Chris de Vos said about 3 000 workers in the province were striking about new working hours that could see them earnings 30-40% less.
De Vos also warned that the strike could possibly spread to other provinces in the country if the workers grievances are not dealt with.
Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott said “Metrorail users with weekly and monthly tickets were eligible to use Golden Arrow buses, but also advised them to make alternative travel arrangements”.
Councillor Elizabeth Thompson, the City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee member for Transport, Roads and Major Projects said "The City of Cape Town condemns in the strongest possible terms the actions by the staff of Metrorail who have acted without consideration for the commuters. This unannounced strike has resulted in no contingency plans being in place for today."
