50 presiding officers have been fired by the Independent Electoral Commission.
An investigation revealed they allegedly held positions in political parties.
IEC's chief electoral officer Advocate Pansy Tlakula said yesterday at the launch of the 2011 municipal elections in Johannesburg, officials, who have already been replaced, were found to belong to political parties. She said the officials had been recruited to assist the IEC with voter registration.
10 of the candidates who were fired by the IEC came from the Western Cape.
