An Eastern Cape doctor has been arrested at a Butterworth hospital.
Nurses say the casualty doctor was intoxicated when he allegedly assaulted two patients, one of them a six-year-old boy and the other a woman.
A security guard and an off-duty police officer intervened during the alleged assaults.
The doctor, in his 40s, was then arrested.
Provincial health department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo says a team was sent to the hospital to investigate the incidents.
