The National Union of Metal Workers has given employers until the end of today to respond to its demand for a 13% wage increase or face more intensive strike action.
Employers have so far refused to budge from their 7% offer.
Reports of violence and intimidation have again been received from the East Rand today.
On the fourth day of the strike, some employers have been forced to close down their factories to protect non-striking workers, while in Germiston, cars have reportedly been damaged.
