Pick n Pay has to retrench more than three-thousand workers due to declining profits and a loss of market share.

The company says it has notified the Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union about the plans to retrench three-thousand-137 full-time workers.

Operations manager Neal Quirk says the decision was not taken lightly but was required to ensure the capability of the business and its employees.

Pick n Pay employs more than 36-thousand-600 people. Its salaries, wages and other benefits bill stands at four-point-three-billion-Rands.
