The National Council of the SPCA says it is opposed to the use of animals in any form of sports or entertainment.
Spokesperson Celeste Houseman made the remarks following reports that the racehorse, Big City Life, had to be put down after breaking its left front leg at the Durban July last weekend.
Houseman says the SPCA remains firmly opposed to the racing of any kind of animals.
