Hundreds of people attended an event at Saint George’s Cathedral in Cape Town yesterday in honour of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s new book, Tutu – The Authorised Portrait.

Tutu turns 80 years old today, and several international celebrities have arrived in the country to show their support, including Irish singer, Bono.

The U2 front man launched several verbal attacks on the South African government over its handling of the Dalai Lama’s visa application.

The Tibetan spiritual leader had been invited to attend Tutu’s birthday party.
