An office outing turned to tragedy yesterday when a man from Mitchell’s Plain drowned while trying to rescue a female colleague from the strong rip currents at Kogel Bay near Gordon’s Bay in False Bay.
The woman involved in the incident was eventually brought to safety on the beach but the man was declared dead following his heroic efforts to save the woman.
Officials have reiterated the warning that surfing and swimming at Kogel Bay can be extremely dangerous because of the rip currents and people entering the sea need to be experienced swimmers.
