The Mail & Guardian has been compelled to suppress a report about presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj.
This follows a threat of criminal trial under the National Prosecuting Authority Act.
The newspaper has a large banner reading “Censored” across its front page today. Editor Nic Dawes says they sent questions to Maharaj on Wednesday.
The following day they were warned by Maharaj's lawyers that the paper would face criminal trial if the story was published.
