Lansdowne police are requesting the assistance of the public in a concealment of birth case after a body of a baby boy was found by a passer-by on the open field on the M5 freeway and Kromboom road in Rondebosch East.
Police spokesperson Constable Nkululeko Mnyaka says the baby was found next to a tree wrapped with a white towel with yellow printing inside in a plastic bag and again in blue nylon back pack.
“The passer-by was curious to see what was inside the bag and opened it and he found a full born baby boy with the umbilical cord still intact.
“He then took the baby to the nearest house where the SAPS were contacted,” said Mnyaka.
He added that a concealment of birth case has been opened for investigation.
“We are still awaiting the Post-mortem results to determine the circumstances surrounding the cause of death,” said Mnyaka.
Anyone with information about someone who was pregnant in the vicinity is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Constable Quinton Hendricks at (021)700 9000.
