The Bishop Lavis community members are meeting today to discuss the imminent closure of three schools in the area.

The number of schools to be closed all together is 27.

A number of Organisations voiced out their opinions on the school closures and questioned the procedures of these school closures.

According to the Department of Education in the province the reasons which led to the decision is the decrease in number of learners at schools and the poor performance.

The ANC Chairperson in the Western Cape Marius Fransman invited the Education MEC Donald Grant to the discussion.

Fransman says these closures will affect mostly the rural areas.
