The Democratic Alliance on Sunday said President Jacob Zuma must immediately inform Parliament about the reported deployment of the South African National Defence Force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

DA Shadow minister of defence and Military Veterans David Maynier said the defence force is reportedly being deployed as part of the United Nations newly established specialized intervention brigade in the DRC.

Maynier added that if the reports are correct, then the SANDF will, to put it simply, be going to war against rebels in the DRC.

Manier explains that the president has an obligation to inform parliament and in appropriate detail about any deployment of the SANDF.

“However despite reports about a massive deployment of the defense force, no information has been provided to parliament,” added Maynier.
