Weekend weather damage being assessed for relief

The city's disaster risk management centre on Sunday said winter storms in Cape Town have displaced more than 2 000 people.

Centre's spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said thunderstorms were present across the Cape Peninsula last on Saturday, resulting in gusting winds causing widespread damage and destruction.

Head of public awareness and preparedness for the City’s Disaster Risk Management Charlotte Powell said mop up operations are being done across the City

“At this stage 14 informal settlements,3900 structures and 15 000 people are affected; Disaster Response team will assess the extent of the flooding and damage caused in order to provide the necessary relief assistance” Powell added.
