The Democratic Alliance has expressed horror at the murder that occurred in Bredasdorp last week.

DA said the murder highlighted the urgency with which action against sexual offences should be taken.

DA Piera Abbott said one of the critical changes that must be made is the reinstatement of the specialized sexual offences court, which has fallen away over the last few years.

Abbott said that this will certainly not solve the rape crises on its own, she adds that it is vital to add a deterrent to would be rapists.

Abbott adds that a clear message must be sent that rapists will be arrested and convicted if they commit this offence.
