The Democratic Nursing Organization of South Africa has applauded and has given it support to the KwaZulu Natal provincial department of Health for deciding to take over McCord hospital.

Denosa’s KZN secretary Cassim Lekhoathi said the move to take over the hospital is in the best interest of serving people and ensuring access to quality care is released.

Lekhoathi adds that they pledge their support to government and commit to ensure that the patients continue to receive the best care at the hospital.

Lekhoathi said they are especially humbled by the fact that the hospital will now be a public hospital, which will ensure that more needy patients will now be treated at the hospital.

This supports the noble idea of the universal access to health care, as they have pleaded before they are happy that there are talks between the provincial government and the management of the hospital, were indeed informed by the intent to fight the burden of disease and care for the sick and vulnerable, Lekhoathi added.
