Right To Know disappointed by State of the Nation Address

The Right To Know campaign said that the President made a few commitments towards improving openness, access to information or freedom of expression.

Although they welcomed those efforts, they voiced a hope to reach the year 2020 with 100 % of the public having access to broadband in South Africa.

R2K Murray Hunter said that the president had not addressed the question the broader climate of secrecy and a growing culture of securitization.

“This culture is undermining all of the notional objectives; addressing poverty, unemployment, addressing abuse of human rights” Hunter added
