A serious collision on the N2 at the Bhunga turn off in Langa late last night left one man died and another in a critical condition.

It is believed that a light delivery vehicle had been stationery at the side of the road when a light motor vehicle collided into it.

Police are investigating the accident.  ER24’s Vanessa Jackson said when paramedics arrived on the scene; they found that the driver of the VW Polo did not survive his injuries.

“Him and the passenger were found trapped in the vehicle; paramedics had to use Jaws of Life to cut the passenger free.

“After a long duration, paramedics had the passenger free and transported him to the Groote Schuur hospital for further care where he remains in a critical condition” Jackson added.

Meanwhile, in another accident a pedestrian was knocked down on the N17 near Ergo Road in Brakpan this morning.

The exact details to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.

Netcare 911’s Santi Steinmann said paramedics found the victim dead due to extensive injuries received.

“Unfortunately there was nothing further paramedics could do to for the pedestrian” Steinmann added.
