The African Christian Democratic Party has today called on the Minister of Safety and Security to crack down on those who are receiving stolen cables and scraps metal in different forms.

ACDP’s MP Cheryllyn Dudley said this kind of theft is continuously disrupting services including the power supply provided by Eskom.

Dudley said large parts of the West Rand was left without power this week, business are losing millions of rands.  This cable theft is costing South Africa about R5 billion a year.  This negatively impacts economic growth and employment.

ACDP’s MP Cheryllyn Dudley added that we do have laws and under those laws any person buying stolen goods including cables is as guilty as the person who stole the actual cable.
